Sumatran coffee is as rich in flavor as it is in history. Amazingly, this coffee was once thought to be lost to the world. It took over 100 years for this prized coffee to be rediscovered, because it was hidden amongst the lush jungles of Sumatra in western Indonesia. Since then, these ancient Arabica trees have been replanted near Lake Takengon in West Sumatra. When in the green bean stage, coffee beans from this region have a bluish color, which is attributed to the wet-processing method (called Giling Basah) and the lack of iron in the soil.
Our Sumatra Black Satin coffee is known for having a smooth, sweet body that balances out the traditional smokey flavor. We have roasted this coffee to a dark profile to produce a full and heavily bodied cup with mild, earthy undertones. While capturing the full flavor, this roast allows our Sumatra Black Satin to have a low acidity with a pleasant smoky aroma and a slight black pepper finish.
